The Path Of The Horse

"Horses helping us heal".

Our vision is to connect with and assist as many people from all walks of life by offering a method of learning about self and others, and developing life skills by working with an equine partner.  We are proud to say that each and every week we are living our vision.

We are blessed to witness the improvement in the mental health of people each and every day knowing the person is responsible for their own leaps and bounds, we are just the facilitators.

Our one on one client visitation has increased.  In this space our key focus remains with our veterans and first responders.  Our work with children and more often than not their families as well, has grown beyond our expectations, most weekends are filled with sessions that we look forward to and enjoy.

WHY WE SUPPORT:
PTSD and our Military

ADF service people (and by extension their families) put their lives on the line for not only our country but allies in their times of need.  Risk of bodily and mental injury as well as death for Australian Defence Force (ADF) members can be present anywhere at any time during these 3 stages;

  • During training

  • During missions (whether during times of conflict or peace-keeping missions;

  • On their return home

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2019 from 2001-2016 there were 373 suicides in service, ex-serving and reserve ADF personnel.

Ex-serving men aged under 30 had a suicide rate 2.2 times that of Australian men the same age for 2014-2016.

Mates Day is about raising funds, awareness and supporting our returned personnel struggling with PTSD.

A few years back a friend's family lost their son to his own hand after he succumbed to the 'war within'.  His family started raising funds and awareness and as I gained a better understanding of the struggles of our returned mates I decided to get a few bands together around Remembrance Day and pass the hat around to cover costs with profits going to our returned mates. Hence, in 2016 Mates Day Ballarat was born.
